Eight Brazilian episodes, 2014 to 2025,
collected by the person's name or, when they had no account, by keywords of the episode,
cleaned and converted into mention networks, day by day.
The database is prepared to receive other platforms and other languages.
The case pages are in Portuguese: each one narrates the episode stage by stage alongside a video of the network and ends with
the figures of each day. Browser translation handles the prose; the words inside the charts are in the
glossary of chart labels. Nobody is named, the target included —
each case is identified by the transgression, the year and the kind of target.
The paragraphs translate the opening text of each Portuguese case page.

Content note. This case involves an accusation of racism and serious consequences for the accused outside the network.

Mockery of a sick child
2019 · Instagram + X/Twitter · Consummated
Late 2019. A young artist with a teenage audience posted a video in which he ridiculed the appearance of a child at an amusement park abroad. The child was under medical treatment — a fact that became public shortly afterwards. The video was deleted, but the reaction was already under way: contracts ended, a show cancelled and products pulled from shops.

A cause used as a weapon
2021 · X/Twitter + TV · Consummated
2021. During a reality show with a large audience, at a moment when the public debate on racism was at its height, a contestant came to be seen by the public as someone who used that debate as an instrument against another contestant. The collective rejection that followed went far beyond the context of the programme.

A live defence of a Nazi party
2022 · X/Twitter · Consummated
Content note. This case involves accusations of advocacy of Nazism and hate speech in the posts analysed.
Early 2022. The host of a live talk show defended, on air, the right of a Nazi party to exist. In seven days the network went from diffuse indignation, directed first at the sponsors, to a conversation centred on him — in which, even after the sanction, a growing share talked to him, and not only about him.

Audio messages recorded in a war zone
2022 · X/Twitter · Consummated
Early 2022. Audio messages from a state legislator, recorded during a trip to the border of a country at war, leaked with disparaging comments about the local women. Within 24 hours the condemnation was unanimous and crossed all political camps. He withdrew a candidacy, resigned his seat weeks later and, even so, had his mandate revoked by the legislative house, with ineligibility.

2023 · X/Twitter + Instagram · Not consummated
The turn of 2022 to 2023. Starting from TV appearances the public considered excessive, a wave of criticism formed against an influencer and turned into a collective campaign. Close former collaborators came forward publicly with accusations about her behaviour, and other public figures amplified them. She withdrew from the networks and spoke publicly about the episode weeks later.

2025 · X/Twitter · Consummation contested
2025. A writer and popular historian faces a strong online reaction after ironic comments on the assassination of a foreign political commentator — when the death had already divided, in Brazil, those who celebrated it from those who mourned it.

From the published daily metrics. Days are counted from the trigger (day 0). “Sampled” means a daily sample with a
ceiling of about 1,000 posts per day; the sanction day is the day the sanction is stated as a fact, decided by reading
each case (see Method and measures).
The comparison curves of all cases (attention on the target, accounts entering, attention on institutions and on the press, centralisation, fragmentation, concentration) and the panel on when institutions are called and when they speak are on the Portuguese cases page, with Portuguese labels.
